Prime wears baby sunsceen on his nose and white areas of his body as to not get sun burned on his light colored coat. He does not guard his food bowl while eating from his humans or the other dogs, not doe she guard his bones or toys. He has only had play time with his doggie parents and it is unknown how he is with cats. He enjoys play tug with the rope and is vocal (growls) while playing. He was easy to collar, scan, and photograph.
WEB MEMO
A shelter staff member writes:
Meet Prime, an 8 month old playful puppy at BACC! He was surrendered because his owners were not prepared for how much energy prime would have as a puppy. Since being in the Care center, prime has been a very social puppy, wanting to interact and play with his handlers. In his previous home, one of his favorite games was tug of war with a rope. While on a leash in the care center, all he wants to do is mouth and tug on his leash, instead of walking. He also enjoys playing with tennis balls! He can play for hours! He is looking for an experienced home where he can receive leash training and lots of love!! Take this playful pup home today!
05/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Prime previously lived with 2 adults, teenagers, and had young family members visit him. According to the owners, Prime lets people of all ages pet and handle him, but can have a high level of energy. The owners mentioned that Prime is still working on potty training and basic commands. He does not guard his food bowl when engaged from his humans or the other dogs, and he also does not guard his bones or toys. The owners also stated that Prime enjoys playing tug with the rope and is vocal (growls) while playing. At intake Prime was noted to be very sociable and attention seeking when interacting with the counselors, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Prime was a bit shy when approaching the assessor, but quickly warmed up and had a relaxed body posture for all SAFER handling items. During the tag interaction Prime tugged hard on the leash and became over aroused. He is slow to de-escalate and required intervention to help redirect him to more appropriate behaviors. During the resources portion of the assessment Prime was easy to handle when engaged with the food and toys, and did not show any interest in the rawhides. Prime appears to be very sociable, but when on leash he is more interested in mouthing and tugging on the leash, and requires intervention to help redirect him, so the department feels Prime would likely do best with an experienced adopter who is able to provide prime with proper leash training. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog becomes easily over aroused, and tugs hard on the leash while growling. Body a bit tense Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Prime is interested in interacting with calm males and is less focused on the handlers.
05/23/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Prime is anxious and seems unsure of his actions. He greets with a wagging tail and attempts to solict play by throwing his body and jumping onto the helper dog. If solicited he backs away and seems unsure of how to respond. He will whine and bark at dogs outside of the yard and when corrected by a handler he will jump up and mouth their hand. 5/24 Update Prime is a very energetic puppy and is more interested in jumping up and attempting to interact with the handlers in the yard then to engage with the other dog in the yard. 5/26, 5/27 Update Prime is interested in interacting with calm males and is less focused on the handlers. 5/28 Update Prime offers correction when a social male attempts to solicit for play. 5/29 update: Prime is tolerant of solicitations from another male and does not engage in play. He is more interested in attention from handlers. 5/30 update: Prime is greets politely but is more interested in attention from handlers. 6/1 Update Prime continues to be polite and tolerant with social dogs but is more interested in interacting with the handlers.
