Medical Summary ; Scan : negative; Sex: male; 3 yr; S/O: BARH, dental diseas 1/4, clean EEN. 3cm area of erythema on R front paw, possible mild hotspot, hair still present. Obese. NOSF
A: Obese PROGNOSIS: EXCELLENT
Popelle is a 3 year old male Dachshund Mix that was given to his owner as a gift two and a half years ago. He came into our shelter because his owner is moving and is unable to have him at his new residence. He has gone to the vet for his yearly checkup and has no known health issues.
SOCIALIZATION
Around strangers Popelle is relaxed, playful and respectful. He lived with adults and has been around children of the age of 5; he is playful but can play somewhat rough. He never lived with another dog or been around cats. He has no history of biting another animal or person.
BEHAVIOR
Popelle has had a few incidents of having accidents in the house this only occurred when owner was late coming home. He also often has destroyed things in the house. He doesn’t like his food or bowl being touched while eating or treats taken away he growls when this occurs. He isn’t bothered with baths and enjoys his coat being brushed. He can be held and restrained he isn’t bothered when this happens.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Popelle is described as a playful and affectionate dog with a high activity level that would do well in a family home. He likes to follow his owner around when he’s home. His favorite toys are squeaky and loud. He likes games such as wrestling. He is mostly kept indoors unless he’s being walked and likes to use to cement to use the bathroom. He eats dry food and really enjoys his favorite treats which are dog cookies and bones. He rarely has accident around the house and when left alone. He was crate trained but no longer need it now. He knows such commands as “sit and “no”. For exercise he walks on the leash and when off the leash tends to wander.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE
Popelle came in with high activity and very playful. He allowed handling from counselors to be scanned (negative), collared and photographed.
SAFER: EXPERINENCED HOME, NO CHILDREN
Popelle previously lived with 1 adult and has been around children of the age of 5. The owner stated Popelle is playful but can be somewhat rough. The owner describes Popelle as playful and affectionate. It was reported by the owner Popelle is house-trained but may have an accident if not walked outside; crate trained, and has a high activity level. The owner stated Popelle doesn’t like his food bowl, toys and treats touched he will growl if this occurs and he will often destroy things in the household.
At intake it was reported Popelle was very active and playful, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Popelle came in with high energy with his mouth open, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Popelle joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item Popelle freezes and growls when attempting to remove his head out of the food bowl, toy item he freezes when attempting to remove the item away from him and rawhide item she displayed no interest. Due to resource guarding, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins.
Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Dog licks hand.
Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.
Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls.
Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
PLAYGROUP BEAHVIOR:
When off leash with other dogs, Popelle is social and greets other dogs well. He may be sexually motivated with some dogs.
10/9 update: Popelle is social and engages in play with other playful dogs. He may become a bit pushy when interacting.
10/10 update: Popelle is social and engages in play briefly. He may become sexually motivated with some dogs.
10/11 update: Popelle is pushy when interacting and will continue to solicit once corrected.
