A volunteer writes: Hey – Slush Puppy here! How cool is it that they named a drink after me and put my picture on the cup? Wellllllllllllll, maybe it was the other way around, but I like my version of the story better! I love to play with other dogs and have the best time – the more the merrier! I also love to play fetch and will bring the ball back and let you take it out of my mouth – my other favorite thing to do is cuddle, and I’ll hang out on your lap and chomp on my ball all at the same time – the “best of both worlds” as they say! I’m a bit too thin so could use some good food to help fatten me up – not too fat as I like to be healthy. I love to play so some toys would be great, and I’m a puppy so may need some direction like not biting on my leash to play – that’s where a good toy will help. I’m young, love exercise, love people, love dogs, love wagging my tail, and am ready to love YOU! So, how about it – come meet me, I’ll show off for you and I know you’ll want to make me yours. Won’t it be fun to have a famous dog as part of your family? I mean my picture on a cup and all? (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)
10/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Slush Puppy pulls a bit on the leash he was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (moderate). She was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Slush Puppy was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Slush Puppy took the toy away but had soft body language. Slush Puppy is a very active and jumpy dog. He appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Slush Puppy needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation and training. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
10/14/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Slush Puppy engages in energetic, running play with playful female dogs. He is tolerant of solicitation from playful males. Based on Slush Puppy’s behavior during playgroup, the behavior department feels that Slush Puppy can be placed into a home with a playful female dog. An adoption interaction is recommended before placement into a home with a male dog. Initial summary: When off leash with other dogs, Slush Puppy is solicitous and engages in exuberant, running play. 10/15: Slush Puppy is social and playful with female dogs, he is toelrant of another male. 10/16 update: Slush Puppy is social and playful, engaging in running play with a group of females. He will eventually begin to mount. 10/17 update: Slush Puppy continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs. 10/20 update: Slush Puppy is social and playful when off leash with other dogs. 10/21 update: Slush Puppy geets politely, and engages in brief bouts of play. 10/23 update: Slush Puppy remains social and playful while in our care.
