SAFER: NEW HOPE ONLY
Helper dog: A1055941
Pedro previously lived with 2 adults, 1 child and another dog. The owner stated Pedro is house broken. The owner describes Pedro as very active and loves to play. The owner mentioned Pedro would play fight with the other dog from time to time. It was reported by the owner Pedro can be food reactive if the other dog is around his food, he will show teeth and growl or if someone goes near his food while eating. It was stated from the owner Pedro bit the child hand because she touched him while he was eating.
During SAFER Pedro came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly, social and affectionate towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Pedro follows the handler but a bit distracted and not fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item Pedro bit the assess-a-hand when attempting to remove his head out of the food bowl, toy and rawhide item he showed no interest. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
