07/05/15 18:41 Orion is a black male labrador terrier mix who was surrendered by his owner at ACC today. Orion is approximately 8 mos. old and is neutered and appears to be in good health. Orion has shown signs of reactive behavior toward smaller animals as demonstrated by his tendency to lunge bark and growl at them. Orion when with his previous owners was calm friendly and able to follow their directives well. Orion demonstrated knowledge of the commands to sit and stay and also demonstrated that he would eat food from their hands. Orion was nervous throughout the Intake process barking at the Intake worker and assorted staff at ACC. Orion demonstrates that in an environmet that he is comfortable and well adjusted in he can be a friendly dog.

07/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Orion previously lived with 1 adult. The owner stated when Orion turned three months old he demonstrated reactive behavior towards both smaller animals and people. The owner mentioned Orion would lunge, growl, and bark at people and animals. The owner mentioned Orion has past bite history but hasn’t broke skin or drawn blood. It was reported Orion was nervous, barking, growling and would not stay in one spot for a long period of time, once his owner left he became calm and friendly upon intake. During SAFER Orion came into the assessment room nervous and skittish, he was not social towards the assessor, when the assessor coaxed Orion he approach the handler with low body posture and lip curled then he rolled over to his back. Not all handling items were able to be conducted at this time. He displayed no interest in any of the resource items during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Food: 1. No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Orion is initially a bit nervous but does warm up. He greets well and will solicit running play but may be conflicted as he will offer correction when the other dogs attempt to reciprocate.
