SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME
Nolfie was a bit fearful but would approach the assessor when coaxed. He allowed for all handling to be completed without any aggression. He was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. Nolfie was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl and had stiff body language. He had minimal interest in toys and rawhide.
Nolfie was surrendered to the care center due to lack of time. His previous owners described as a playful, affectionate & friendly dog. It was also reported very friendly around strangers and has lived with children between ages 1-8 and was very tolerant of child play. During the assessment, Nolfie was a bit fearful but began to warm up to the assessor throughout the assessment and allowed all handling without aggression. It was reported that Nolfie is not bothered when is food or toys, however, during the assessment he showed some potential to guard food, getting stiff and a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl. The Behavior Department believes Nolfie would do best in an experienced home that can monitor and positively modify any guarding behavior that may manifest in the home. The adopter should also understand Nolfie has exhibited some fearful behaviors and should be allowed the time to acclimate to new people and a new environment at his own pace. If children are in the home, an in-depth interaction is recommended.
