06/28/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/28/15 11:39 Nino is a 2yr old American Staffordshire Terrier who was given to the owner by a friend 2years ago and is being surrendered due to family changes and his being too big. Nino’s last vet visit was last year and he has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Nino is wary of strangers. He will bark initially and smell them alot for a few minutes. If he “doesn’t like you/your vibe” then he’ll keep barking at you. If he likes you he’ll walk away/ignore you. Nino has lived with children of ages 2yrs, 5yrs, 10yrs & 14yrs old. He’s gentle, exuberant and somewhat rough at times due to his size. He lived with a doggie sibling/parent and was gentle, exuberant and somewhat rough at times. When Nino sees a dog outside he barks at them and or tries to engage in play. He has no experience with cats. Nino has never bitten/scratched a person or animal. Behavior: Nino isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being held/restrained, being given a bath, having his nails trimmed. Nino isn’t allowed on the furniture. He hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting. If someone unfamiliar approaches the home/family member Nino will bark and sniff them a lot “to see if he likes them”. For a New Family to Know: Nino is described as friendly, affectionate, confident, excitable & independent. His activity level is medium-high. He enjoys playing with dogs. When the owner is home Nino will follow them unless they tell him not to then he won’t/or he’ll stop. He enjoys ball & rope toys. He enjoys games of tug. Nino is an indoor/outdoor dog. He sleeps on the floor, he doesn’t like his dog bed. Nino eats Pedigree dry food 3x a day. He is house trained and rarely ever has an accident. Outside he “goes” on grass. When left alone in the home or the yard he’s well behaved. Nino’s known commands are “sit”, “lay down”, “speak” & “no” (to stop doing something). When Nino is walked 3x a day 30-60mins each time where he sometimes pulls on the leash. Intake Behavior: Nino sat by his owner but took treats gently from the admissions counselor. When approached Nino became slightly stiff bodied and sniffed their hand. To minimize Nino’s stress level we had the owner assist us with scanning (-), collaring, taking his pictures & walking him into a kennel.
06/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Where’s the beef? It’s all right here in the form of a hunky young meathead named Nino! Gorgeous, stunning, majestic…there simply aren’t enough adjectives in the English language to describe the handsomeness of his sculpted face and athletic figure and everywhere he goes, admiring heads turn to follow. Surrendered to our care because his family no longer has the time or space to devote to an energetic pup, Nino comes with some wonderful comments and a few small caveats. He’s lived in happy harmony with another dog and 4 kids aged from 2-14 years and played exuberantly yet gently with them all, though his size makes him a bit overwhelming for the toddlers. When meeting new doggie friends he’s all tail wags and butt wiggles and though he’s naturally strong, Nino walks quite nicely on leash (except when a cyclist passes by and he simply must bark at them) and knows and obeys commands for ‘sit’, ‘lay down’, ‘speak’ and ‘no'(stop). He’s seemingly very house trained and used to being walked 3 times a day and while he was much more interested in snuggling than playing during our date, we’re told he usually loves to mess around with balls and rope toys. Nino has no known guarding issues and takes treats sooo gently from my fingers, he loves petting (especially butt rubs!) and I couldn’t agree more when his former owners describe him as friendly, affectionate, confident and independent. Nino adores all dogs but he’s a bit fussier when it comes to his human friends and may need some structured socialization training as we’re told he can be wary of strangers and very sensitive to their ‘vibe’. In an active, big dog-savvy home this 72 pound mushball could be a real superstar so come see what your family has been missing at our Manhattan Care Center. Nice guy Nino would love to shine for you!
