05/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Shhhh – don’t tell Niana she’s considered a senior at 10 years old as she’ll shush you and quickly tell you that she’s spry, fun loving, energetic and loving. She’ll tell you that she still likes to play with toys, enjoys a good game of tug, can nimbly hop up on the bench to snuggle with her person, can amuse herself playing with a toy by batting it around, has maintained her housetraining skills to perfection, loves to wag her tail, make new friends and go for a nice walk demonstrating her lovely leash manners. And I second all she’ll tell you about herself, and add that as we walked she looked up at everyone we pass as she looks for her person….that when she plays with a toy she play growls (too cute!), that when I sat down to take some notes she lay at my feet…..that when I went inside to get her kennel ready she waited quietly and patiently for my return and was tail wagging happy to see me, and that she’s sooooooo sweet and friendly and loving she’ll make someone an awesome friend. Niana was surrendered to our care by her family due to “personal problems” and its clear that she was lovingly taken care of. She’d like to spend her senior years (don’t tell her I said that) in a nice home, on a nice bed, with some toys, good food and people with whom to snuggle. Let’s make it happen for her!
05/31/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Niana came to us as an owner surrender. She walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. Niane allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands for Look item. She stood still and accepted the touch with her tail wagging during Sensitivity. Niana followed at the end of the leash during Tag game, body soft. She settled at the end easily. Niana did not pull her paw back during both Squeeze attempts, licking her lips each Squeeze, ears back. She calmly allowed the food bowl to be moved away while eating, and lifted her head out of the dish when assess-a-hand was applied to her cheek. Niana was playful with Toy, keeping a firm grip with a loose, wiggly body and wagging tail. She had minimal interest in rawhide, sniffing but not settling down with it to chew. Niana did not greet dog at the gate for social time, so she did not attend playgroup. The Behavior Team feels Niana would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog is panting. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull paw back. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs/licks, then turns away.
