10/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nia came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Nia came into the assessment room nervous and tense; she was not interested with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Nia was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Nia was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Nia can be very fearful and uncomfortable; she also doesn’t like fast movements. Nia is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Nia. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Nia be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace, so the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body tense, trembles, mouth closed, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit tense. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
