10/12/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Mesi was surrendered to the shelter because his owner moved to a place that does not allow pets. Mesi is a friendly playful dog who loves everyone he meets!!! Mesi’s previous owner reports that he is good with other dogs and loves children. When I met Mesi, he was outside in the play yard. He greeted me as if I was his long lost friend, kissing me and asking for a back rub. Mesi is a bit thin, but otherwise absolutely handsome, with the cutest polka dot ears and the biggest, brightest smile. If you are interested in adding Mesi to your family, come to Staten Island ACC and meet him.
10/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mesi came into our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he plays gently with children. Upon intake, Mesi was playful and friendly. Owner reports Mesi plays well with other dogs. Behavior around cats is unknown. Mesi came into the SAFER assessment area with a lot of energy, in constant movement, including jumping up on assessor. Mesi allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, tail wag. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tail slightly wagging, body soft. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, head a bit low. Mesi had no response to both paw Squeeze attempts. She calmly allowed Food dish to be moved, and lifted her head once assess-a-hand was applied to her cheek. Mesi had no interest in Toy or Rawhide. She approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward, tail above spine level, but vocalized once she was unable to fully approach the helper. The Behavior Team feels Mesi would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn body awareness and focus. Mesi would benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct her high energy and enthusiasm.
