10/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Max walks calmly on leash. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Max had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Max was not interested in toys but took the rawhide away with a soft body language. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Max is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Max is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. When off leash with other dogs, Max is initially nervous but allows greeting. He eventually opens up and approaches the female greeter, but also persistently attempts to mount. 10/7 update: Max greets but is mostly sexually motivated. He does not reciprocate with play when solicited.
