LYRIC – A0755265
Safe 5-7-2015 Manhattan
A volunteer writes: Lyric….I would love to write a song with a happy ending, one where beautiful Lyric would be home sweet home again, cared for and loved as she so deserves.I forgot all about it but I met Lyric many years ago when she was still a puppy. She came back to us, abandoned in mysterious circumstances , in her usual place of living. Lyric is in mint condition, like coming out of a grooming salon, healthy and well nourished. One wonders what might have happened…She was clearly a cherished pet. Lyric is bruised, scared and “frozen”. She avoids the eye of the camera and my eyes all together. She looks far away at the mirage of her past life. There is no way she can trust any of us. Still, how long can one hide in a self made jail ? May be a very damaged soul..But not Lyric…It took time and effort, few sessions together, but Lyric opened the door to her heart, very very slowly although not fully. She came as I called her, sat at once, on my foot, and accepted my petting. She hopped then on the bench, squeezed her body against mine and kissed my face…I know she has still a way to go, but I am so proud of Lyric. She is a survivor because she is trying to adapt and use whatever chance she has to feel better. Lyric is my kind of dog, in looks(I do not know what mix she truly is ) and temperament. The woman(man)’s best and loyal friend, the true companion I would love to have in good and bad times. Lyric is at the Manhattan Care Center, wishing upon a star…

03/23/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/23/15 15:32 During the intake, Lyric was very nervous. She was stiff and was trembling; she had a tuck tail, and wide eyes. She allowed me to scan and collar and showed no signs of aggression. She became comfortable with me and even crawled onto my lap. She was very nervous about walking through the shelter and she allowed me to carry her. When I tried to put her down, she held on tighter to me.

Although in mint shape and outstandingly groomed, she is middle aged, distant and quite reserved in her kennel. She does not belong….and truly…she does not….Lyric is very dear to me because I know her from a tender age and also because we have had many outings during her present stay at the care center. She has opened up considerably, dares now to look at me right in the eyes and comes to sit on a bench very close to me for hugs…She trusts me. She is a survivor and I admire her for that. I so hope that there is someone out there who will be Lyric’s hero, give her the chance to belong again and free her to enjoy life and give love. Lyric is still hoping….
03/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lyric walks with a fearful body language. She was extremely fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Lyric was shy and nervous and trembled during handling, with stiff body language. She becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. Lyric was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is fearful and she will flinch every time the handler makes an unexpected move toward her head. Lyric needs time to warm up to the handler. We also recommend a home without children she needs an adopter that can provide a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit. Dog may be crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest.
