11/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/06/15 14:10 BASIC INFO Lucille was found tethered on a short chain to a pole at a park. She was left with a bag of half-eating rotting pasta. Lucille’s finder was walking his dog when he found her yesterday. The dogs play bowed and began playing. Lucille’s finder brought her home and cared for her for 1 day but cannot keep her. SOCIALIZATION Lucille’s finder reports that she is friendly/outgoing with strangers. She was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played gently-exuberantly with his other medium sized female dog. Lucille did not bite anyone. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Lucille’s finder describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. She walked very nicely on her leash with her finder and his dog. She never pulled. She ignored squirrels and birds she passed outside. Lucille seems housetrained as she only pottied outside and didn’t have accidents in the house. She slept in her finder’s bed with him at night and he reports that she was cuddly, quiet, and relaxed during the night. He tried to crate Lucille in a pop-up crate, and she tried to chew at the bars. INTAKE Lucille had a soft body while we pet, scanned (-), collared, positioned her for pictures, picked her up, and put her in a kennel. She wagged her tail (neutral-low) as she approached us and while we talked to her. She took treats very gently. After her finder left, she began whining and jumping up to stand against the counter and look outside. She stopped accepting treats. Petting her and talking to her did not distract or relax her.
11/10/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Two things about Lucille: she always looks so serious (I have to keep trying at getting a smile); and her ears are just so amazing, expressing it seems how she feels inside. And, oh, I forgot, she is a twirler, spinning around in the air for a ball or a treat. Lucille is a pretty gal, elegant, overly thin but dressed in a well groomed and shiny marble cake coat. She seems wary although she is now much more relaxed. She loves food and will jump high for treats that she takes politely from my hand. She will sit, wait and run for a tennis ball, catch it and bring it back toward me. She is shy and well mannered in playgroup with other dogs. Lucille, although clearly not a yard dog, looks like she has been deprived and is trying here at the care center to catch up with the basic needs she did not have before coming to us. Within a few days, she will be up to speed, mingle happily with her peers, and enjoy the park. Meanwhile, come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center. What Lucille needs is a loving and caring home to bring on her face the smile that she is so entitled to have. Lucille is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to be your girl…
11/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucille came into our center after being found by a member of the public tethered to a pole. Finder reports she was friendly and outgoing to strangers and played with Finder’s dog. Finder reports Lucille only went to the bathroom outside and had no accidents in the home while in Finder’s care. During intake, Lucille had a soft body, wagging tail, allowing all handling, but began to whine when Finder left. She walked nicely on leash for her relief walk. Lucille held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, tail wag. She leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, fast wagging tail. Lucille followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, jumping on assessor at end playfully. She quickly pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Lucille showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Lucille is nervous when greeting but will slowly approach. At the end of the SAFER assessment, Lucille whined until she left the room. The Behavior Team feels Lucille would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play to positively direct her attention and focus. Look: 1. 11/07/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lucille has mostly displayed anxious behavior during off-leash play groups. Recently, she has shown some interest in play. Lucille has often attempted to mount both male female dogs during interaction. Based on observation made while in our care, the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before Lucille is placed into a home with another dog. Lucille arrived to our care center as a stray, so her in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. When off leash with other dogs Lucille is nervous when greeting; she will slowly approach with her tail tucked before walking away. She is tolerant of solicitation but does not engage in play. 11/10, 11/11: Lucille greets the other dog, and occsionally tries to mount. 11/12: Lucille is anxious. She whines and begins to pace the pen. She approaches to greet another dog, then attempts to mount. 11/14 update: Lucille allows greeting and will briefly greet the other dog but is more interested in exploring the yard. 11/13: Lucille engaged in gentle play and will correct male dog when he attempts to mount. 11/15: Lucille mostly keeps to herself, occiasionally approaches and mounts. 11/17: Lucille greets politely, mostly keeps to herself when greeting a nervous female dog.
