06/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lexi previously lived with 1 adult and a 12 year old for the last year. The owner stated Lexi is very house trained and has no accidents. The owner mentioned Lexi has been kept mostly indoors; the owner describes her as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, independent, and friendly. It was reported by the owner Lexi is well behaved when home alone. The owner also stated Lexi chases cats that she sees and in the home. It was reported Lexi was anxious, she was pacing in the office and panting heavily. Lexi approached the counselor slowly when her name was called. Lexi was tensed when collared but relaxed when the counselor was done, she allowed all handling without showing aggressive behaviors upon intake. During SAFER Lexi came into the assessment room alert with her mouth open, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Lexi was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Lexi was easy to handle when engaged with the items. She bit a 12-year-old child who was persistently interacting with her. Aside from this incident her behavior around adults and children appears to be generally affectionate. Based on this incident and Lexi’s reaction, we recommend a home without young children; older, dog savvy children can be considered pending interaction and an understanding of dog body language and canine warning signals. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
