11/04/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Jemma is a girl who’s got her priorities in order and the first thing on her agenda is always hugs hugs hugs! The minute I sit down she trots over and hops her front paws into my lap for some snuggles and she’s always ready to come when called for treats or kisses. This loving sweetheart was purchased to act as a visual deterrent to thieves on a construction site but once that project was completed and her ‘services’ no longer needed, she found herself bunking with us at the Care Center instead. While Jemma can be fearful of everyday things like a simple elevator ride (none of those on the site!) it’s clear she’s no stranger to socializing with all kinds of people and her heart is open to love whenever and wherever she can find it. Jemma walks well on leash and does her business outside and if you didn’t know her working past you might think she knew what it was to be a pet, it’s just that easy to imagine her snuggled up on a comfy couch or happily trotting through the park with an adoring family by her side. Though she gets along nicely with other calm, friendly pups in playgroup and wags her tail happily when greeting them in the street, if someone becomes aggressively barky toward her Jemma does react accordingly so her new parents will want to keep their little girl’s circle of doggie friends fairly selective. Soft, sweet and super affectionate, Jemma was born to be a pet and she’ll bring a whole new level of loving to the lucky family who takes her home–ask to meet this darling girl today! Another volunteer writes: Break out your sunglasses before meeting this gorgeous girl, as her coat GLOWS with good care. Shy and sweet, she’s working hard to overcome a lack of socialization with both people and other dogs, and is snuggly and happy to make new friends. In play group, she greets politely and attempts to solicit play, engaging in running play with both males and females. When other dogs are correcting each other, she’ll sometimes interject with her own correction — like the dorm mother! How cute is that? Still a bit timid about things like elevators and stairs and things that she was never exposed to, our Miss Jemma is gaining confidence every day. It’s a joy to see her blossom and discover new things…. how lucky her new family will be to witness this every day. Come meet her and explore her new world together.

The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction.
