He sat for treats and allowed being collard, photographed and scanned.
10/31/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: In his gorgeous Cognac colored coat, his white socks providing the perfect accent, Sam is one handsome boy. We have the alliteration down to perfection: Sam is sleek, sexy and sweet! Throw in elegant and friendly and we have the perfect description. Showing off his lovely leash manners and his housetraining skills (he ‘went’ as soon as we were out the door), we had a lovely walk to the park. Stopping to take some pictures, Sam didn’t mind being tethered, made soft eye contact for photos and was easy peasy to work with. Back in the yard he explores our pen, joins me on the bench for snuggles, poses for more photos and greets some dogs in the adjoining pen. In group he greets others politely and solicits play. Sam shows off his ‘sit’ in exchange for a treat which he takes softly, plays with a ball briefly but is more interested in rolling in for some cuddling. His quiet soft energy is delightful, his snuggles are perfection and he’s looking for his lifetime snuggle partner. Meet Mr. Sam today.
11/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sam pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Sam was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash (soft), and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy with a soft body language. Sam appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. When off leash with other dogs, Sam greets the other dog politely. He attempt sto solicit play with the eventual goal to mount.
10/29/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
In the care center Sam has only exhibited sexually motivated behaviors. Based on this the behavior department recommends that Sam have a pre-adoption interaction before being placed in a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Sam greets the other dog politely. He attempts to solicit play with the eventual goal to mount. 11/3 update: Sam greets well but is a bit sexually motivated. When the other dog corrects him he begins to bark and become pushy in his attempts to mount. 11/5 update: Sam is sexually motivated and will continue to attempt to mount once handler correction is offered.
