10/24/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes (as told by Hova): Hi puppy lovers out there!! I’m a fun loving, playful, active, very handsome (if I do say so myself), young pup who needs a new home. I’m well on my way to being housetrained if walked enough, I pull on the leash so could use a harness and some leash training, and I can be a bit jumpy when I play because I was never taught not to be. I’m all about love and fun, but I listen very well, especially when there’s a treat involved! I love treats (who doesn’t?), so I’ll be easy to train with positive treat reinforcement and I look forward to it. I love to learn new things, and I already know how to sit. My new friend, Volunteer, calls me a good boy when I listen and I like that. Volunteer gave me a plush toy to play with and I loved tossing it around, what fun! My coat is shiny, my weight is good, I love to play and snuggle, and I’ll share my toy with you. The nice people here took me into pen with another dog to play and I did pretty well; I was “social”, “a bit playful”, and “gentle and dainty”. I’m here because I didn’t get along with the male dog where I lived before, but with proper structure and training I’m going to be a rockstar with my new family. I know that not everyone wants to deal with a puppy, so only come meet me if you’re ready to provide me with the structure, training and love that I need. I’ll be your forever best friend…….pinky swear! That’s Hova – don’t forget!
10/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hova pulls a bit on the leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and was excitable but playful while playing tag. He is a rough player and goes quickly to his mouth. He snapped at the assessor’s hand on the third pass and then bit his pants but did not catch skin at any point and the behavior appears to be motivated by play. Hova did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He took the toy and rawhide away with a soft body language. Hova was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Hova is very friendly around strangers. Hova has never lived with children. Hova plays gently with adults. He has lived with another male Pitbull and they did not get along. Hova would try to fight the other dog in the home. He appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. He is an energetic puppy who is quick to use his mouth and who may have poor impulse control, but does not appear to show any human-directed aggression. We recommend training classes and positive reinforcement behavior modification protocol to help Hova learn appropriate ways to play with his human caretakers. Please note: while we did not detect aggression during this item, hence the “1” score, Hova did bite at the assessor’s pants and show a fairly low threshold for arousal. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Hova greets politely. He briefly engages in play with males and females.
10/22/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE

He occasionally attempts to mount the other dogs in the pen. 10/25: Hova is social and playful with other playful dogs. 10/27 update: Hova continues to be social and playful and may attempt to mount during play. 10/28, 10/29: Hova engages in running play with a group of males and females. 10/30, 10/31 update: Hova continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs. 11/1 update: Hova engages in rough, running play with males and females. 11/3 update: Hova is social and playful, engaging in mouthy running play with males and females. 11/4 update: Hova continues to engage in rough play with males and females. 11/5 update: Hova engages in rough running play with males and females.
