10/16/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Greta Garbo is a “dame of a certain age” as we say in French. In other words, not old, not young and usually attractive… It really fits the bill looking at our Greta who is a very girly girl with a lively personality. She is all eyes on a potential caretaker entering her area, stands right behind her den’s door and clearly makes you understand that she wants out. Greta is an active gal who does not belong to a kennel. She is leashed easily and pulls quite a bit , doing her business as soon as we leave the building. Free in a pen, she does sit on command and is quite fond of treats. She seems to like caresses, comes when called and does run and jump after a ball. She did not toy with her leash during our encounter but she did so with few other people. Greta has been well cared for. She is healthy-looking and dressed in a pretty and shiny brindley coat. She seems a bit uncomfortable with other pooches met here at the care center but it also could be that she is just overwhelmed. I would love to spend more time with this spunky mama, make her feel more at ease and discover more of her personality. Greta is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting to start her life again as a beloved pet.
10/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Greta Garbo pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Greta Garbo became over aroused during the tag interaction, grabbing the leash with a stiff body language, growling, focusing on the assessor and did not calm down easily until the assessor tethered her. We’re not certain what the motivation is behind the behavior, there was no clear aggression but due to her focus on the leash and on the Assessor when he held the leash, paw squeeze was skipped. Greta Garbo did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Greta Garbo show some concern during the tag interaction she became over arousal. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Greta Garbo is stiff and uncomfortable being approached by the other dog. She corrects the male helper dog when he attempts to approach and greet.
