Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mil came to our center after police were called to retrieve a dog in an abandoned building. She was stiff and fearful for the first several days at the center, but warmed up significantly after several days, jumping up to lick assessor’s face before beginning assessment, allowing all tactile handling portions of the assessment with soft body. Mil allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body relaxed and neutral, slightly wagging tail. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, ears back, mouth open. Mil followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, soft body, approached assessor at end of game. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Mil stiffened on first cheek pass while in the Food bowl, attempted to bite the hand on second pass. She had no interest in Toy and growled with Rawhide. Mil approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, lip lick, ears forward, body a bit tense. Due to her reaction to the second cheek pass on Food item, Mil must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail slightly wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 5. Dog freezes, then tries to bite on second pass. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 4. Dog growls. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body a bit tense, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
