09/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Introducing the sweetest thing on two bowed legs…Floyd! At the moment his orthopedic quirk doesn’t slow him down one bit. On our most recent walk he seemed to delight in completing an imaginary obstacle course as soon as we got out the door – riding on a rolling cart, jumping over a crate, hopping onto a bench, walking across it, and finally joining me on the boring sidewalk! He is very excited to go on walks and can pull on the leash, but is still easy to handle and not disconnected. He seems to have housetraining and is definitely food motivated. He knows “sit” and is so eager to earn a treat he’ll do so without me asking him to… and stay there like a little statue with pleading eyes that’s hard not to give in to! When I’ve run out of treats he’ll sit at my feet and rest his head on my lap as I search for a crumb. He doesn’t have time for cuddling yet – too much to explore, but lets me pet him all over and wags his tail throughout. He’s very puppylike, waggy and playful; he has a charming play bow (often followed by spin moves!) and loves to romp around with a squeaky toy. When another dog walked by to enter the pen adjacent to us, scrappy little Floyd revealed that he has quite a big bark! His vocalization didn’t seem to stem malice, and once he was face to face with the huge rottweiler on the other side of the gate he seemed to realize he might’ve made a mistake and submissively urinated! This endearing little guy is looking for a little guidance, a lot of love, and a home – please come meet him at Brooklyn ACC!
09/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Floyd came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Floyd came into the assessment room with high energy and sniffing around the room, he was friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Floyd joins the game and jumps on the assessor at the end during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Floyd was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Floyd appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy, so the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw, dog lick hand. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Floyd is a bit anxious but greets the other dog politely. He engages in brief bouts of play with a playful female.
09/08/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
