A staff member writes: Rhett is an adorable little Lhasa who is ready to find his forever home! Rhett is social and friendly, but he has been a bit reactive when being handled so he should go to an experienced handler. Please let us know if you can take this gorgeous guy today!
Behavior – New Hope Only
Helper Dog: A1049466
Rhett came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Rhett was calm and friendly, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Rhett came into the assessment room calm and relax, he was a bit social towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Rhett tried to bite the handler on paw squeeze. He displayed no interest in any of the resource items during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite.
Food: 1.No interest
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
Group Behavior: When off leash with other dogs Rhett greets politley and continues to sniff the other dogs. He will mount but responds well to correction. 9/4 update: Rhett is social and greets other dogs politely. He may become sexually motivated with some dogs. 9/5 update: Rhett is socal and may be pushy when attempting to greet other dogs. He engages briefly in gentle play with another playful dog.
