10/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ebony came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Ebony was loose and wiggly but whining, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Ebony came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social, and affectionate and also whines towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Ebony was easily aroused but de-escalates once game ends and remains with loose body language during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment ebony was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Ebony appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog gets easily aroused but de-escalates once game ends and remains with loose body posture. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit tense. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: Ebony was very aroused and anxious when she entered the play yard. She was jumping up and whining at the handlers and at the helper dog. Once the gate was opened she bounced in to greet the helper dog. They had a rambucous bout of play- body slams, chases, paw slaps.
10/26/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Ebony is anxious but social and engages in play with both males and females. She offers appropriate corrections for pushy behavior. Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Ebony can go to a home with both male and female dogs. She seems to do well with both playful and non-playful dogs so any playstyle can be considered. Ebony was very aroused and anxious when she entered the play yard. She was jumping up and whining at the handlers and at the helper dog. Once the gate was opened she bounced in to greet the helper dog. They had a rambucous bout of play- body slams, chases, paw slaps. 10/28 update: Ebony continues to be anxious, whining and jumping at the fence when in the yard.
