A volunteer writes: Timid and delicate-looking Mocha, a very young damsel, was found in an abandoned apartment , together with her handsome body guard, Double. She is very fond of him and gives him little licks through his kennel door. Mocha is one pretty gal, petite, tentative, often keeping a little paw up and always seeming to ask her caretaker what should she do next. Such a lovely dog, trim, elegant, perfectly groomed and dressed in a Catahoula costume. Her nose seems to be made of pink sugar candy and one of her eyes reminds me of a blue lagoon. Mocha comes when called, with little steps, tail wagging shyly. She trembles although it is not really cold. She likes to be caressed and comes for comfort on my lap then in my arms after making sure it is OK with me. Mocha is very polite and unsure. She needs a lot of reassurance. She is such an adorable little lady. Mocha is probably shaken up by the sudden events that turned her life up side down. I bet she must be a lively and darling young gal who loves to play, make friends and cuddle with her caretakers. Someone went into mama’s closet . Yep, it was halloween last night and Mocha needed a special outfit. The perfect little girl she is ! So patient, so obedient, compliant with whatever you ask from her..She is tiny and pretty, almost could fit in a big brown bag….Come and ask for lovely Mocha, she dreams to be the beloved little girl of your house. Come to the Manhattan Care Center and meet our little gem.
10/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mocha walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Mocha was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Mocha was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Mocha is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Mocha. We recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Mocha be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. Please note that behavior may change when she is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest.
