04/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I wonder why they named her Eboni ? She looks more like a Cinnamon to me….Some individual I will not qualify, tried to make Eboni look mean and scary. Her ears were cut, one almost completely while the other is still able to wiggle a bit …If it was not enough, she was most likely kept in a crate, her feet bathing in her own urine….And you know what….Eboni still loves our kind. Yep, she is a star lap dog, looking so blessed to love and to be loved. She has that smile, those eyes that speak volume when she is close to a caretaker. She is a kisser “numero uno”. What a pretty girl she is , petite, red like a fox, bright eyed and equipped with the most engaging smile on earth. Butchering her ears did not hurt her looks at all. Eboni is a beauty in and out…She is very much loved at the care center because she is very friendly, sociable, a survivor and a resilient gal who tries to make the best of her new situation and make friends with people and dogs alike.. Eboni aced her behavioral evaluation and is available for adoption. She so deserves a better life that the one she had until now..Will you be her savior, the one who will show her that in loving hands, life as a pet can just be wonderful… Another volunteer writes: Eboni is another example, within this shelter, that one can’t judge a dog by their looks…or cropped ears. If her ears were cropped to make her look tough, it wasn’t successful. Eboni emanates saccharine cuteness regardless. The little girl is very timid though. When I walked her she had walked directly behind me most of the times. Yet, she still timidly greeted another dog after my coaxing. The sweetheart wanted to cuddle more than walk, and keep pressing herself against me for snuggles and kisses. Seriously, we did less walking and more cuddling. I couldn’t stop laughing. Eboni is the perfect snuggly companion for throughout all of life’s joys and hardships.
04/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Eboni came to our center as a stray on 4/13/2015. She was nervous and fearful during intake, both while coming out of the cage she was transported in and walking on leash in the center. Eboni walked into the SAFER assessment room comfortably after she had a chance to relax on her relief walk. She was nervous during tactile portions of the assessment, but never aggressive. Her body was a bit stiff during Look and Sensitivity items, and was a bit fearful during Tag. Eboni lifted her head out of the food dish with ease once assess-a-hand touched her cheek. She had minimal interest in toys or rawhide. The Behavior Team feels Eboni would do well in an Average home that understands she may need time to warm up. If Eboni is approached slowly and gently, and allowed to warm up at her own pace, she displays affection and is social and friendly. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit stiff, mouth closed, lip long. Tag: 2. Dog is a bit fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 1. Minimal interest.
