A volunteer writes: What a wise and wonderful face! They say the eyes are windows to the soul and Dr Pebbles’ striking amber gaze shines bright with love for us all. Who knows what she’s seen in her 8 years of life…did the joys outweigh the sorrows? Pebbles is timid and hand-shy at first so perhaps people haven’t always been her friends but like a beautiful flower reaching for the sun, she blossoms under the warmth of kind words and the touch of a gentle hand. As soon as I sit down I’m showered with soft little face kisses and it’s not long before she’s enjoying a full body petting, complete with head caresses and butt scratches. I never have to ask for Pebbles’ affection, she happily gives it away to anyone who’ll take the time to offer her a morsel of kindness, and behind her shy facade lies a big heart brimming over with sweet, eager love. Pebbles sometimes shies from being re-leashed but once I’m on one side of the gate and she on the other, we have no issues at all and the rope is easily accepted as part of our walking routine. Strolling nicely down the street, she takes care of her business quickly and seems to like other dogs too, though as with people she prefers a calm, measured approach in her four-legged friends. Is it possible to fall in love at first sight? After meeting this amazing girl I’m ready to believe. Visit our Manhattan Care Center and ask for Pebbles – the Doctor of Love will see you now!
08/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dr. Pebbles walks calmly on leash. She makes her body look small by hunching over and getting low to the ground. She holds her tail tucked, and do not let the assessors handle her. During the look Dr. Pebbles was giving a low growl and exposes her front teeth. We stopped the handling part for safety reason and move on with the resources. Dr. Pebbles was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. She does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Dr. Pebbles was found by the police. According to the admission counselors during intake Dr. Pebbles growled and barked aggressively from the police carrier. Once taken out of the carrier she walked calmly on the leash and did not pull. She did not liked being touched anywhere on the body during intake, she growled when pet on the back and snapped at my hand when trying to remove the collar and trying to pet her head”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
