07/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dilly came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Dilly was loose and wiggly, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Dilly came into the assessment room calm, he was friendly towards the assessor, allowed most handling items to be conducted. Tag-interaction was not tested at the moment due to medical issue. During resources portion of the assessment on food item Dilly bit the assess-a-hand when attempting to remove his head out of the food bowl, toy item he showed no interest and rawhide item he takes away body between the assessor and the item. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
