07/20/15 13:43 BASIC INFO: Kenya A1044756 is a 1 year old Presa Canario Mix. She was obtained from a Breeder, and the Owner had her for a year. The Owner cannot keep due to having personal problems and having to move back home with their parents. Kenya does not have any health concerns, and Owner took her to a Vet a few months ago. SOCIALIZATION: Kenya is very friendly with strangers. She lived with 4 children, ages 4, 7, 11 and 12 years old. She was very relaxed, playful and respectful of the kids. she played gently with the kids. she plays gentle with adults as well. She has never lived with another dog, but she is well behaved around male dogs. she does not like female dogs. Around cats, she barks at and growls. she has never bitten a human or other animal. BEHAVIOR: Kenya does not have any behavior issues. During storms or loud noises she is not bothered. She is not bothered if you remove her food bowl, water bowl or toy. she does not get on furniture. she enjoys taking a bath, getting brushed and her nails trimmed. If an unfamiliar approaches, she does not bark. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: The best way to describe this dog is by saying that she is friendly, affectionate, playful and mellow. She has a low activity level and her favorite thing to do is sleep. When home, she tends to stay in the same room with the Owner. She enjoys to play tug with ropes and plays fetch with a ball. She slept on a toddler bed. Kenya was fed once a day dry food, Purina dog chow. The dog’s favorite treats were apples and oranges. She is very housetrained and never has accidents. She pottys on grass and cement. When left alone in the home she is well behaved. Kenya listens to the commands, sit,stay and lay down. For exercise she would be walked briskly on the leash. She does pull lightly on the leash. INTAKE DURING BEHAVIOR: Kenya was very sweet and friendly, allowed all handling, scanning, (negative) and photo taking.

Kenya was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed during handling. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Kenya did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was easy to handle when chewing on toys and had minimal interest in rawhide. Kenya was surrendered to the care center by her owner of one year due to personal issues; upon intake she was very sweet and friendly, allowed all handling. According to her previous owner, Kenya is very friendly toward strangers and lived with 4 children ages 4-12 years old, she was very relaxed, playful and respectful of the kids. It is reported she does not seem to get along well with cats and although she never lived with another dog it was stated that she got along with male dogs but did not seem to like female dogs. Her owners also reported she is unbothered when her food bowl or toys are touched. She was described as friendly, affectionate, playful, with a low activity level. Throughout the assessment, Kenya remained friendly towards the assessor and showed no behavioral concerns. The Behavior Department feels she can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, tail wagging. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Dog may lick hand. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kenya greets politely and is interested but does not engage in play. She will correct a sexually motivated male.
