09/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Da Bears came into our center as a stray. He had a soft, relaxed body during intake. During his initial medical exam, Da Bears was tense and nervous, attempting to bite when being picked up. Da Bears pulled a bit on leash for his relief walk. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body neutral, tail tucked. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, lip lick, ears and tail neutral. Da Bears initially followed at the end of leash for Tag game, but became uncomfortable at each pass, eventually spinning towards hand for third pass, approaching assessor at end of game, tail tucked. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, eyes soft and squinty. Da Bears required a bit of pressure from assess-a-hand to push his cheek out of the Food bowl. He had no interest in Toy or Rawhide. Da Bears approached the helper dog at a quick pace, ears forward, tail above spine level, body not stiff. The Behavior Team feels Da Bears would do best with an Experienced adopter with no young children. Any older children should have an in-depth interaction before considering adoption. He may do best initially in a calm, quiet, structured environment so he can relax and know what to expect in his new home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is neutral, his tail is tucked. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, ears and tail neutral, body soft, lip lick, eyes squinty and blinking. Tag 3 . Dog spins toward the touch on third pass, and repeatedly tries to exit, approaches assessor at end when coaxed, tail tucked. Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed, eyes squinty and blinking. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body neutral. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
