05/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I wouldn’t be surprised if Cotton was a runway model in a previous life — she has the gorgeous walk/glide of a super model! In this life it appears that Cotton hasn’t had an easy time; she’s been a mom a couple of times, she has some scarring on her face, and callouses on her hip bones from perhaps sleeping on a rough surface. Despite whatever her life was, she’s friendly, affectionate, gorgeous, likely housetrained and has good leash manners. Wagging her tail as we walk (and she glides) to the park, we stop for some photos and treats. Getting a bit playful shows me the side of Cotton that she’s quietly keeping hidden at the moment, although the affectionate and loving side of her is all out there as she gives me kisses and cuddles in my lap. In play group she prefers quiet dogs, correcting a dog who tried to mount her, and staying by herself for the most part. Acing her behavior assessment means the behavior team thinks she’ll be a good fit in just about any home. Quiet, calm, loving, soft and easy, Cotton is looking for her happily ever after as a cherished pet companion. She’s earned it and deserves it. Meet our sweetheart today. Another volunteer writes: We raise our hand enthusiastically and yell, “GOOD WITH BUNNY RABBITS!” This in response to one of the many volunteers who are madly in love with this girl sighing, “She has so many things going against her. She’s not pretty at this point, she has scars….” Do we sound overly defensive, yelling about how good she is with rabbits? She really is, but the bigger point is all of us are willing to throw our bodies down in front of her until one of you saner humans looking for an amazing family dog steps over us to lead her home. She’s so kind and patient she could teach preschool. Funny. Gentle. Mellow. Great on a leash. Great to hang with. Loves a lap, snuggles, apparently housetrained. And very, very, very soft. Sigh. Please come fetch this girl, and feel free to adopt a rabbit while you’re here. It’s all good with Cotton around.
05/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cotton walks calmly on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. Cotton was calm and relaxed during handling. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Cotton did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Cotton did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1.
