05/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Clinton came into the care center as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake he was reported to be easy to handle, but became a bit anxious when his finders left, and he was reported to exhibit some high energy during his medical exam, but no behavior concerns were noted, and he was tolerant of handling. Upon entry to the assessment room Clinton pulled hard on the leash, but he was sociable, and maintained a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor. He was relaxed for all SAFER handling items, and became a bit distracted during the tag item. Clinton was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but his body was soft, and after a bit of pressure was applied to his cheek he lifted his head. He only showed minimal interest in the toy items, and when engaged with the rawhide, Clinton held a firm grip, and did not relinquish, but his body was loose. No behavior concerns were seen during SAFER, but the department feels Clinton’s strength when pulling on leash can be difficult to manage, and he would be best suited for an experienced adopter that is able to provide proper leash manners. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft and a bit distracted. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Clinton is anxious, pacing the yard panting and whining. He will offer correction when he is solicited.
05/22/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Clinton is anxious, pacing the yard panting and whining. He will offer correction when he is solicited. 5/23 update: Clinton is less anxious and more interested in the helper dog. He may solicit a bit initially using his body to bump into the other dog, but eventually he begins to focus more on mounting. He takes the correction but begins to get frustrated and offer growls toward the helper dog when she does not allow him to mount her. 5/24 Update Clinton polite greets and explores the yard
