07/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: When I first took Brock out I couldn’t hekp but bemoan all the times I’d walked by him without taking him out – he is one cool dog! Whenever I pass his cage he is quiet, but solicits attention with soft eye contact, and will wag his tail when I approach. He keeps a very clean den and seems housebroken. He has been consistently easy to handle, but seemed a little nervous for the first few minutes of our time together. He quickly warmed up to be very friendly and playful. Off leash he likes to explore the pen, but is still responsive and comes to me after he’s done his thing. He has an adorable prance to his walk like a horse and when I encourage him to play he busts out the zoomies! Brock seems very food motivated and even knows some tricks. He responds to “sit” and will give either paw! When there was a female dog in the pen adjacent to us he was very interested and waggy. He tried to bat at her with his paw through the fence, zoomed around, and tried again! She wasn’t quite sure what to make of his advances, Brock seemed to delight in just the prospect of her company. I’m sure you would have the same effect on him! Sweet Brock would be so happy to meet you at Brooklyn ACC.
07/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brock came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. It was reported Brock was friendly, energetic and playful at times, he allowed all handling upon intake. During SAFER Brock came into the assessment room loose and wiggly with his mouth open, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Brock was distracted but not fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment on food item he took bigger bites with his body tense, he showed minimal interest with toy item and no interest in the rawhide item. Due to some concerns with food item the behavior department feels he can suitable for an “experience” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
