BASIC INFORMATION
Boy is 2 year old Shih Tzu Mix that was adopted from the care center and he is being returned because the owner had spinal surgery and his roommate now longer lives with him to help with Boy.
SOCIALIAZATION
Boy lived with 2 adults. He was not socliazed with childre, cats, or dogs in his new home. Boy is partially house trained. He will start to circle in teh home but the owner will catch him and bring him outside. He is kept mostly indoors and has a high activity level. The owner describes him as playful, confident, excitable, affectioante, melow, and friendly.
BEHAVIOR
He isn’t bothered when his food or toys are touched or taken away. The owner is unsure how Boy would react to baths, grooming, or having his nails trimmed because Boy had oto be sediated because his matts were very bad when the owner adopted him. Boy does enjoy being brushed. He enjoys being held and is friendly when strangers visit.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Boy does not walk on a leash and left to play in the yard. He enjoys playing wil balls and bones. He is crte trained and does well for 8 hours. When people are home he tends to follow them around. When left home alone he will use the bathroom indoors. He is used to eating Blue buffalo dry dog food. He sleeps in a crate.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE
Boy approached the couneslor with loose boy and wagging tail. He solicted attention by jumping on the couneslor. He nuzzled when backing his back pet. He maintain his loose body through the intake.
Behavior:
Boy previously lived with 2 adults. The owner stated Boy is partially house trained; crate trained and does well up to 8 hours and has a high activity level. The owner describes Boy as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, and friendly.
At intake it was reported Boy was friendly, loose and wiggly, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Boy came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly, social and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Boy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Boy was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Boy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.
Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Boy is a bit uncomfortable but may greet some dogs briefly. He offers correction for pushy behavior.
