Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bobo came to our center after being found as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. Field officers reported Bobo was very well behaved in the vehicle after initial hesitation to get in. During intake, Bobo needed a few minutes to warm up but was then eager to play and well behaved, allowing all handling by staff. Bobo pulled a bit on his relief walk. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail low wagging, body neutral. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail down, mouth closed. Bobo followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling at end of game. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Bobo bit assess-a-hand when attempting to push his cheeks out of the Food bowl. He had no interest in Toy or Rawhide. Bobo approached helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward, tail above spine level, body not still. Due to biting the assess-a-hand during Food item, Bobo must be placed with a New Hope partner. This was the only concerning behavior he displayed, as throughout the assessment he was social, tolerant, and complying with all assessment items. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail low wagging, body neutral. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans in and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
