06/05/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/05/15 21:51 Bella Boo is a black and white American Pit Bull Terrier mix that was surrendered due to personal family problems. Bella Boo lived with 2 adults and has not met any little children up close. Bella Boo lives with a Chihuahua and they play and have a good relationship, but sometimes Bella is rough with the other dog. Bella is okay with her 2 family members touching her food bowl while eating, but owner is unsure if she would guard from a stanger. When the owner wants a toy that Bella Boo has all the owner has to say is “Bella Boo give me the toy.” Bella Boo loves all squeaky and stuffed toys. She also likes ot fetch the toy. She is crate trained. She can be told to go to crate. She knows shake and sit. She uses wee wee pads inside the home as well as goes outside. When unfamiliar people approach, Bella Boo typically gets really stiff and her hackles will go up, she will growl, bark, lunge and snap at them. She is well behaved in the home when left unattended. Bella Boo loves to sleep in her human’s bed. At intake Bella Boo allowed all handling by the cousnselor and encouraged petting by the counselor by going under her legs and putting her head under the counselor’s hands. She also rolled over for belly rubs. Bella Boo got tense when other staff members approached and she snarled and lunged for them. Bella Boo was easy for the counselor to collar.
06/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Bella Boo is truly beautiful, inside and out! She is a chunky, low riding lady, with the most perfect forehead wrinkles, adorable spotted chest, and oh goodness, her smile! Smiles, really. Her open mouthed, tongue out look is unparalleled, and her more subtle, teeth poking out from her jowls look is my personal favorite. While her owner reports she does not do well with strangers, I’m happy to report she swept this stranger off her feet! She is very wiggly and affectionate. Bella will prop her paws on my lap, give kisses, and even flop over for belly rubs. She loves toys and will easily drop it to engage in fetch, or she can entertain herself – throwing her toy, pushing it with her nose, even sneaking up and pouncing on it! She seems eager to play with other dogs and to be housebroken. Bella knows “sit” and “paw” and takes treats nicely. She pulls a little on the leash, but is very attentive – constantly looking back and wagging her tail. I can’t get enough of sweet Bella – please give her a chance to charm you, too! She would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
06/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bella previously lived with 2 adults, and has not interacted with children. Bella also lived with another small dog, and the owner states they have coexisted well, but Bella can play rough. The owner also stated that Bella allows her owners to touch her food bowl when eating but isn’t sure how she will respond to a stranger touching her food. Bella has been reported to not do well with strangers, and the owner states she will bark, growl, lunge and snap when approached. At intake Bella was reported to be sociable and very attention seeking. She allowed a counselor to handler her without any issues, and rolled over for belly rubs. During SAFER Bella was very sociable and attention seeking. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and maintained a relaxed posture. During the tag interaction Bella became over aroused and mouthed the rope, but her body was soft, and she deescalated quickly. During the resources portion of the assessment Bella was easy to handle when engaged with the items, and allowed the assessor to remove each item without issue. Although no concerns were seen on SAFER the previous owner stated she does not do well with strangers, and the behaviors seen when greeting her in the kennel corresponded with the behaviors noted by the owner, so an experienced adopter is recommended. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, but becomes over aroused and mouths the leash Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Bella will attempt to solicit play and may become a bit pushy but takes correction well.
