BEHAVIOR:
Pebble came to us as an owner surrender on 7/16/15. It was reported by the previous owner that Pebble is a high energy dog that has lived with children ages 4 and above. Around the children the owner stated that Pebble plays with exuberantly and a little rough by knocking the children down due to her size and high energy. When entering the behavior room Pebble was very rambunctious and interested in interacting with the assessor. She was very hard to position during the assessment and would occasionally mouth the assessor with moderate pressure. On the tag interaction Pebble became over aroused and was quick to use her mouth in play and has poor body awareness, resulting in her mouthing handlers with moderate pressure. She proved a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Pebble took the toy and rawhide items away with a firm grip but had soft body language. Due to the behavior demonstrated during the evaluation the behavior department believes that Pebble would do best in an experienced home with no children. Potential adopters should be prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for her energy.
Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs her shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. She becomes quickly over aroused and begins to jump on the assessor very strongly, and mouths with moderate pressure.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.
PROFILE: 07/16/15
Basic Info: Pebble is a 9 month old spayed dog who has no prior injuries or medical problems. She was originally adopted from ACC and surrendered back to the shelter because the owner had to move out of the country and was unable to take her.
Social Life and Personality: According to owner she has been around children ages 4 and up and is very relaxed and playful with them and is very tolerant of their loud noises and harsh petting. When she plays it is exuberant to slightly rough because she will jump onto the children not realizing her size and will sometimes knock the over. She has the same behavior with other dogs but has mostly been around larger dogs. She has not been around cats so her behaviors are unknown. She is house trained and kept mostly indoors. She has a very high level of energy and was described as playful, confident, affectionate, and friendly.
Behaviors: She has never bitten anyone or any animal before. When owner tried to take food away from her she was not bothered but did try to keep eating until out of reach (entire time had soft, relaxed body and never snapped at hand) and when toys were taken away she was friendly and tried to play. She is afraid of getting a bath and will attempt to escape from the tub but it was noticed she is less stressed when she is in still water versus moving water. She has not had her nails clipped but enjoyed being brushed. She is very friendly and affectionate when unfamiliar people approach the house or family member by sniffing and licking them.
New Family Info: She knows the commands sit, stay, down, and come. She is used to both brisk walks on leash and off leash dog parks. When she is off leash in the dog park she will wander away and is difficult to get for the first 15 minutes while she inspects everything but once she has gotten time to see where she is at she will wander slightly but come when called. She will play with balls and ropes and will play fetch. She has not been crate trained and when at home will follow owner around. When left home alone she will be well behaved but if tissues, toilet paper, etc. are left out she will tear them up (does not search inside cabinets or other places for them) and loud noises such as fireworks or thunder do not bother her. He was fed dry food (Onjen) and slept with owner in bed.
Intake behavior: Allowed all handling without aggression. Was positive for a microchipa dn when touched had soft, relaxed body.

A volunteer writes: Ears! Those ears! Adorably brindlicious, Pebble has the best ears in the place. Framing her adorable face, making her look alternately majestic, stately or just plain silly, her eyes sparkle with the fun of being outside. She’s exuberant in everything she approaches and will jump up to play and let you know she’s just a pup who likes to have fun. She settles down after a bit, and will sit when asked and she shakes both paws! She’s slender and elegant, her brindle coat alive with color and sheen. Joining me on the bench for some cuddling, she shows off her softer side. Pebble likes other dogs and when in group is social and engages in rough play. She’s an enthusiastic puppy who needs some structure and positive reward based training to usher her into the rock star adult she’s destined to be. Her perfect home is active, playful, loving, and ready to provide her with everything she needs including some training. If that describes you, Pebble is hoping you’ll stop by to meet her.
