08/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Beauty lived with only adults and the owner stated Beauty was playful, relaxed, and tolerant towards everyone in the household. Beauty also lived with 2 other dogs, and it was stated that Beauty gets along with other dogs, but she is reactive to cats. Her activity level was said to be high, and she was best described as playful, affectionate, independent and friendly. It was mentioned that Beauty barks a lot when she hears noises, and has the habit of destroying indoors items such as wires, sneakers and clothes. It was also mentioned that she doesn’t guard her food, toys, or treats, and she tolerates getting in a tub to take a bath but will attempt to flee when the water is on. It was reported that Beauty relieves herself outdoors and she has been crate trained and can do well for a couple of hours. Upon intake it was reported that Beauty appeared to be anxious and barked, and only allowed limited handling by the counselor. During SAFER Beauty consistently body checked the assessor while flailing the leash making it difficult to position her for the handling portions of the assessment. Beauty needed a great deal of intervention to help redirect her fixation of the leash, but once settled she was easily aroused and repeated the same behavior. Due to this behavior no handling items could be conducted at this time. During the resources portion of the assessment Beauty became very stiff and growled when pushed out of the food bowl, and was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. Beauty would do best in a home without children, and the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner who is able to further explore the behavior concerns displayed while in the care center, and can also provide positive reinforcement behavior modification to address the potential possessive behavior displayed over the food item, and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog:When off leash with other dogs, Beauty is tolerant of interaction but spends most of her time exploring her surroundings.
