04/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Athena came to us as an owner surrender citing landlord issues. It is reported she has only lived with adults and has not been around children, dogs or cats. Athena was relaxed and calm upon intake, but skittish of loud noises and nervous of her surroundings during her relief walk. She held gaze with Assessor for three full seconds during Look item. Athena was not comfortable during Sensitivity item, ears back, whale eye, tail tucked, but allowed the touch. She followed at the end of the leash a bit fearful for Tag item with low body and tucked tail. Athena had no response to Squeeze item. She ceased eating and jumped back fearfully when attempting to push cheek out of food dish. She also jumped back fearfully when attempting to take toy. Athena took rawhide away from the assessor with a firm grip but her body was loose. Due to her cautious nervousness in various situations, the Behavior Team feels Athena would do best in an Experienced home with no young children. Any older children should first have an in-depth interaction before adoption consideration. She may also benefit from a permanent home that offers structure and routine to help ease her into a new environment. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, whale eye, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food 1. Dog lifts head, jumps back fearfully and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 1. Dog jumps back fearfully and will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog to Dog: Socially, is stiff at the gate so she is muzzled to attempt interaction. She gets more stiff when muzzled and tucks her tail.
