04/22/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/22/15 19:11 The finder found Takoda a week ago outside in the park with a large chain around his neck. The finder took him home and cared for him for that week before bringing him to us. They report that he was friendly with their family including the children. They kept him tethered in the house so he wouldn’t knock things over. They also reported that he whined, barked and possibly growled at them but they couldn’t describe certain instances of him growling. They also worked with him on house breaking but he would use the bathroom indoors. They said that he was also relaxed while taking a bath. Takoda had a loose body, wagging tail, open mouth during intake. When the finder patted him on his head he flinched. He allowed handling-scanning (negative)collaring, petting, pictures and switching leashes. He also took treats.
04/25/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I arrived early at the shelter and Takoda was stretched out on his side sound asleep. I marveled at how well he slept in the midst of bright lights and noise. Amazing! While I waited for him to wake up I googled his name and found that it’s a Native American name meaning ‘friend to all’. And that he is! Good in group with other dogs, he clearly enjoys meeting all and responds well to correction. He’s all wiggle butt as greets other dogs through the fence, tail wagging appropriately and giving a little ‘let’s play’ bark. Takoda shows me that he’s likely housetrained ‘going’ endlessly the moment we’re outside. He’ll need some leash training and/or a harness as he pulls strongly on the leash and he’s a big boy. Big, and magnificent!!! His coat is a gorgeous gray with bronze threads running through it, his weight is perfect for his size; he’s clearly been well taken care of before joining us. He sits for treats, takes them gently and puts on his serious face for photos. It would seem that in his past life he posed for lots of photos as he does it so well! Joining me on the bench for some hugs, Takoda gently wags his tail, and then hops down when I toss a toy for him to play with. And the zoomies begin!! Takoda tosses the toy as he runs the length of the pen giving his legs a good stretch. He’s gorgeous and fun to watch! Looking for an active home in which good exercise is on the daily ‘to do’ list, Takoda is ready to prove that he is indeed a ‘friend to all’. Ask to meet him today!
04/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Takoda pulls hard on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Takoda was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Takoda was not interested in toys or rawhide. Takoda during the assessment showed guarding issues during the food bowl test. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 1. No interest Rawhide: 1.No interest. Dog-dog: With other dogs off-leash, Takoda was stiff when being sniffed but once comfortable he may try to mount. He responds well to correction.
