10/27/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/27/15 09:51 Yoshi was found roaming outside. His finder reports that he was approaching people, soliciting attention, and trying to follow strangers home. He walked Yoshi here and reports that he was easy to walk and friendly with him. Yoshi had a very loose, wiggly body and wagging tail during his intake and while we handled him-scanned (-), collared, switched leashes, pet, and positioned for pictures. He appears dirty and a little thin. He was eager to drink water and eat food. While eating and drinking, his body remained loose. He frequently stood up and leaned against us while we pet and talked to him. He was easy to encourage to walk into his kennel. Alone in his kennel, he whined, barked, and pawed at the door.
10/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I always wonder what makes a dog keep one ear up at all times, standing like a sentinelle and calling sometimes the other ear to the rescue. Yoshi is part of that rare crowd, a real cute young guy dressed in a becoming oreo coat. Yoshi is a very friendly character, wagging his tail non stop and sitting obediently on command, for treats or not. He is a very hungry caterpillar. Food might have been very scarce wherever he came from. He will jump for it, stands on his hinds, begging for more and even search my bag. A little scolding and an order to settle bring him back to a sitting position, one paw up for forgiveness… or more treats. Yoshi is really adorable. He likes to be caressed, comes on my lap, sniffs my face and then licks me. He pulls a little on the leash, does his business without marking, does not go after the birds or the squirrels and is cool with other dogs met, even the little ones. Yoshi is a very likeable boy located at the Manhattan Care Center. Are his dreams to become a beloved pet unrealistic? It all depends on you and him meeting each other, falling in love and making plans for a wonderful future together..
10/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Yoshi pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Yoshi was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. He ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Yoshi was not interested in toys or rawhide. Yoshi may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address his possible food guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. In addition to food behavior modification protocol we recommend teaching Yoshi Drop It” and trade-up games. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears relaxed, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Yoshi is a bit nervous when entering the pen. He is tolerant of play solicitation. Yoshi occasionally attempts to mount the other dogs int he pen.
10/28/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Yoshi has engaged in some running play with males and females but he spends most of his time during his off leash interactions attempting to mount. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center the behavior department feels that Yoshi should have a pre-adoption interaction before going to a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Yoshi is a bit nervous when entering the pen. He is tolerant of play solicitation. Yoshi occasionally attempts to mount the other dogs in the pen. 10/30 update: Yoshi is a bit sexually motivated but will engage in play with other dogs when solicited. 10/31 update: Yoshi continues to be sexually motivated but will listen to female correction and engage in play. 11/1 update: Yoshi is sexually motivated but will engage in rough play. 11/3 update: Yoshi engages in brief bouts of running play. He will mount both males and females and is slow to take correction. 11/4 update: Yoshi greets with loose body but exhibits sexually motivated behaviors when interacting with another male. He postures and advances then mounts and is slow to respond to correction. 11/6 update: Yoshi engages in running play when solicited by a more playful dog. He will mount another male but responds well to correction. 11/7 update: Yoshi greets another male dog and will not cease when handler correction is offered.
