07/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tuck came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have information on his past behaviors in a home. At intake Tuck was reported to be relaxed and he allowed all handling. He was said to be very attention seeking and gentle when interacting. During SAFER Tuck maintained a relaxed body posture when interacting with the assessor, but he was occasionally distracted by his surroundings. He allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and was distracted during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Tuck was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but with a bit of pressure applied to his cheek, he lifted his head and allowed the assessor to remove the food. He only showed minimal interest in the toy items and was not interested in the rawhides. Tuck appears to be sociable and has not displayed any behavioral concerns while in the care center, so the department feels Tuck can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog licks, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: Off leash Tuck is a little sexually motivated but social, engages in gentle/dainty type play, responds appropriately to corrections. We were able to use him effectively as a greeter dog and he handled that well.
