07/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What a friendly character Ramsey is! He is ready to fly out of his upper kennel right into my arms. Free in a pen, he hops onto my lap for hugs and kisses. He is so cute, as orange as a sweet carrot but oh so thin..Yep, all his ribs and spine tips are showing….No wonder that Ramsey is as hungry as a bear and jumps for roast beef. He can contain himself, though and will sit upon request, waiting patiently for his due….Ramsey could be house trained as he eliminates as soon as we reach the street. No marking involved. He pulls a little on the leash and seems thrilled to see other dogs. Toys are a bigger temptation than treats…Ramsey transforms into a tiger when he spots the tennis ball in my hand. He is all excited, his eyes shine, his face is split by an open mouth ready to catch the much desired object… His tail wags even more than usual… He leaps, twirls in the air, makes a back flip. He got it..each time….At first, I thought he would not share the ball with me…Not at all. Ramsey is a player…..He knows that it takes two to have fun…Ramsey is a cute and very medium size youngster with many qualities..Sociable, friendly, affectionate and playful. I bet he would love to meet you and show who he is and what he can do. Come to the Manhattan Care Center, ask for Ramsey and take him home as your forever best friend.
07/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ramsey pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Ramsey was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Ramsey was not interested in toys or rawhide. Ramsey may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this food behavior. In addition to food behavior modification protocol we recommend teaching Ramsey “Drop It” and trade-up games before this behavior escalate. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs Ramsey is sexually motivated but will engage in play when solicited.
