POOCH – A1030305
Safe 3-30-2015 Manhattan
A volunteer writes: So wiggle butt happy to be out with me, I thought this too skinny little boy was a puppy. His tail wags, his eyes sparkle, and as we head out the door he’s all about showing me how thrilled he is to meet me. Going potty outside tells me he’s housetrained as his former owner advised, and he lets me put a coat on him against the chill morning air. Surrendered with this housemate, Sandy, due to NYCHA restrictions, Pooch is social and friendly. Chasing a tennis ball with his tail wagging, he even retrieves from time to time and lets me take it out of his mouth. Rockstar! Per his former owner he likes to play with rope toys, knows ‘sit’, and likes brisk walks. As hungry as he clearly is, he takes treats gently with the edge of his teeth, and aced the food portion of his behavior assessment. And, I’m bragging now, he aced his entire assessment meaning he will be a good fit in just about any home. He loved our cuddle session (so did I), and I promised him a home where he’ll get fattened up, have lots of play time and lots of forever love. He’s compact, affectionate, playful and fun, and waiting for you to stop by and meet him. Your home might be the perfect forever heart for Pooch….ask for him today.

03/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Pooch came to our center on 3/14/15 as an owner surrender. He is reported to have never been with cats or children. Pooch did not pull on leash while on his relief walk. He was exuberant and high energy in the assessment room but settled down for all SAFER portions. Pooch followed at the end of leash during Tag, and settled easily when ending the game. He mouthed the assessor’s hand during Squeeze, but did not apply pressure. Pooch pulled his body away from the assessor during the second Squeeze. He calmly allowed the food bowl to be taken, and calmly allowed his cheeks to be pushed out of the food bowl as well. He had minimal interest in rawhide and relinquished it easily. The Behavior Team feels Pooch would do well in an Average home, where he would benefit from having chew toys such as Kongs to positively channel his energy and enthusiasm. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging low and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Pooch Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest.
