04/23/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/23/15 21:01 Basic information Polo is a 3 year old brindle male neutered pitbull that has been with his family since he was nursing. He has no apparent health issues and is being surrendered due to behavior at home. He lives with 4 adults, 2 teenagers age 19 and 16 and one child. Polo also lives with a cat. Social life and personality Polo is reported to play well with children and is affectionate with the cat he lives with. However with cats or dogs outside the home clients report his behavior to be unpredictable and over the last year they have limited his exposure. He lives indoors and is house trained. He gets his exercise on brisk leash walks and play in the yard. Behavior Polo has had issues with biting family members without warning but has not bit or scratched anyone in the last ten days. When Polo walks on the street he wears a muzzle. Polo is reported to guard his food and may not tolerate being moved or pushed off of furniture. Owners report he does not guard his toys or treats. Polo enjoys a bath and does not mind nail trims. Polo can be defensive towards strangers appoaching the yard or family members. For a new family to know Polo’s favorite toy is a squeaky toy and he likes to play tugging games. Polo has been crate trained and likes his kennel but is resistant to being made to enter. He knows many commands including sit, come, down and stay. When the family is home he likes to be where they are and when alone he may bark or whine near the door. He is alert but not scared of sharp noises. He enjoys both wet and dry food. Owners state he is very smart and a good listener. Upon intake Polo was not handled due to the information given by owner. He was loose and curious for microchip scan (positive) but was not collared or photographed.

04/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Polo previously lived with adults, teenagers, and a child, and according to the owner Polo was reported to play well with the children, and was affectionate to the cat he lived with, but the owner also stated Polo has bitten family member in the past without warning. Polo was also reported to guard his food, but not his toys or bones. The owner mentioned Polo enjoys baths, and doesn’t mind nail trims. At intake it was noted that limited handling was attempted due to the information provided by the previous owner, but he did allow the counselor to scan him for a microchip without issue. During SAFER Polo was not attention seeking, but he was very responsive to the assessor voice. He was tense for some of the handling, and became stiff and uncomfortable during the paw handling items. He was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Polo was not interested in any of the resource items, and was more interested in exiting the room. Due to the information provided by the previous owner the department feels polo would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted.
