04/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Winter was brought in as a owner surrender, but due to the previous owner only owning Winter for a short period of time, there is only limited information on her past behaviors in a home. At intake it was noted that Winter was distracted by the smells in the lobby, and due to the owner stating Winter did not get along with strangers, no handling was attempted. The previous owner also stated Winter gets along only with children and does not do well with other dogs. During SAFER Winter was a bit distracted by her surroundings, but she was very responsive to the assessor voice. She was a bit nervous and tense for some of the handling items, but she allowed the assessor to complete each item without issues. Winter was easy to handle when engaged with the food and toys items, but did show some concerns during the rawhide test; stiffing and snapped at the assess-a-hand when the assessor attempted to remove the rawhide. Due to this behavior placement with a New Hope partner is recommended so that the concerning behavior seen during SAFER can be more fully explored before placement into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks and trembles. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Body a bit tense Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 5. Dog attempts to bite. Dog-dog: Winter is muzzled due to O/S profile. She is very distracted in the adjoining yard with the muzzle and does not approach the gate to greet the helper dog. The gate is open and she politely greets the helper dog but with a stiff body. The muzzle is removed when she is alone in the second yard and she is allowed time to explore, She approaches the gate again and greets the helper dog with a wagging tail.

04/27/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Winter is muzzled due to O/S profile. She is very distracted in the ajoining yard with the muzzle and does not approach the gate to greet the helper dog. The gate is open and she politely greets the helper dog but with a stiff body. The muzzle is removed when she is alone in the second yard and she is allowed time to explore, She approachs the gate again and greets the helper dog with a wagging tail.
