02/07/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A handsome redhead with amazing ears and stunning eyes, Milo is ready, set, go and thrilled to be going out. He goes potty as soon as we’re out the door indicating he’s likely housetrained. He pulls on the leash so will benefit from some leash training, but is responsive, in tune with his handler and likes treats so should be easy to train with reward based methods. Energetic and playful, he seems to love other dogs, watching a group in another pen, tail wagging away. Milo sits the moment he sees he’s getting a treat, keeping a watchful eye on it and taking it gently. He didn’t mind being tethered for photos, his tail wagging, and yes, keeping an eye on the treat. Giving hugs and kisses and happy tail wags, Milo has a great playful energy and will do well with an active family. He aced his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in just about any home…..if you’re active and are able to provide Milo with exercise, playtime and lots of love, he’s hoping you’ll stop by to meet him today.
02/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
On 2/4/2015 Milo came to us as a stray. A staff member wrote “The dog was very friendly and alert”. The Assistant’s observations: hyper, friendly, playful; pulled hard on leash to the assessment room. During the assessment Milo appeared friendly, active, playful jumping up to lick the Assessor’s face. Although active (running around the assessment room, jumping on the Assessor and Assistant), he allowed the Assessor to conduct all tactile assessment and accepted handling very well. When pushed away by the “assess-a-hand”, Milo gulped faster from the food bowl. He kept a firm grip on a rawhide. Milo is a very friendly energetic dog that should be a good family pet. He will require daily stimulation in the form of exercise and brisk walks. It is the recommendation of the Behavior Department Milo may be adopted by an average owner who can handle a more energetic dog. Look: 1 Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted Sensitivity: 2 Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, panting, jumps up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1 Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Squeeze 2: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Food: 3 Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1 No interest Rawhide: 1 Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
