04/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Harley came into the care center as an owner surrender, though we have very little information on his behavior in his previous home. We do know that he was surrendered for displaying inconsistent or “unpredictable” behavior. He has shown concerning behavior since his arrival at the care center. At the time of pick up he was skittish, wary, and tense. He was growling during his initial medical examination. Since then he has not warmed up to any of his caretakers, continuing to avoid handling and interaction. When approached he moves to the back of his kennel and looks up with the whites of his eyes showing, growling, stiff body. He may lunge when the kennel door is opened. He appears to be willing to bite at items that are placed into his kennel. Due to the behavior seen in the care center, supported by the reason for surrender, a SAFER assessment is not appropriate at this time. We recommend a New Hope partner prepared to invest in behavior modification training for Harley to address the challenging behaviors he has been demonstrating, and who can keep him and those around him safe.
