04/25/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What do Jensen Ackles and our Jensen have in common you’re asking? “Beautiful, heart stopping good looks” is the answer according to Google! Our Jensen is indeed magnificent in his chocolate brown coat with gold threads, gleaming with good care. His weight is perfect for his size and his eyes sparkle with fun and intelligence. Peeing a river (several times) as soon as we were outside tells me he’s likely housetrained and we went for a short walk down the block before heading into the backyard. He loved playing with a squeaky toy, tossing it up, shaking it around and running up and down the length of the pen as he held onto it. An occasional detour was my lap for some petting, holding onto his new toy friend. He’d run off to chase a bird flying into our pen, and then back on my lap with his toy for a good chomp. He’s affectionate, smart, and oh so handsome he made my heart hurt. Move over Jensen Ackles it’s our Jensen’s turn to win all the awards. He’s our resident rockstar. Jensen showed some resource guarding during his behavior assessment so can be adopted only through a rescue group who can offer help in training should these behaviors still exist once in a home. He’s a gorgeous, friendly sweetheart of a boy who has clearly been well taken care of and finds himself needing a new person or family.
04/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jensen pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Jensen was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food and rawhide bowl test. Jensen growls during the toy test. Jensen was friendly during the handling part of the assessment but he show guarding issues during the food, toy and rawhide test growling and biting the assessor-a- hand. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide: 5. Dog attempts to bite
