A staff member writes: Meet Eva and Hazel Boy: Eva and Hazel Boy are best friends! Although not related, Eva is Hazel Boy’s surrogate mom, and she calls the shots! Anything Eva does, Hazel Boy wants to do too. This dynamic duo is looking for a new home, and they hope it will be yours!

Both were last seen at a vet in 2014.

She isn’t bothered by the following: having her food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture or being held/restrained. Eva enjoys bath time & being brushed. She hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting nor had her nails trimmed. She’ll bark when unfamiliar people approach the home/family member.
For a New Family to Know: Eva is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, pushy, mellow, excitable, independent & anxious (at times) with a high activity level. Eva is a diva and loves being picked up, carried & dotted on. When the owner is home she’ll follow them around. Eva enjoys ball, stuffed, chew bones, rope toys & bottles. She’s a mostly indoor dog who’s walked 3x a day where she doesn’t pull on the leash. She sleeps in the living room on linen. Eva eats Pedigree or Blue Buffalo 3x a day. She enjoys Beggin Stripes or the green/white dental chews. Eva is house broken but will have an accident if someone takes too long to take her out. She’s well behaved when left alone. Intake Behavior: Eva had a loose wiggly body. She allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of including positioning her during her photo session. Eva allowed us to pet, pick her up, hold and place her into her kennel with ease.
BEHAVIOR
Eva came into our center as an owner surrender along with a very large dog (98 lbs). It is reported Eva raised the large dog since it was a puppy, she plays exuberantly with him and he follows her lead with everything. Owner reports Eva has not been around children, she is friendly and outgoing with strangers, but will lunge and attempt to chase cats she sees on the street. Owner reports Eva will bark during fireworks and storms and attempt to hide. It is reported she is not bothered when someone touches her food, toys, or treats. During intake, Eva had a loose, wiggly body, allowed all handling and being picked up. Eva walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body relaxed. Eva stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tail slightly wagging. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, tail wagging, approached assessor at end. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail at spine level, body relaxed. She showed no interest in Toy, but this may be due to the environment as owner reports she is very playful. The Behavior Team feels Eva would do well in an Average home.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed.
Toy 1. No interest.
Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral
GROUP BEHAVIOR:
When off leash with other dogs, Eva ignores the other dogs and instead wanders and explores her surroundings. She barks at some activity outside the pen.
