11/21/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/21/15 Basic info Cream A1058607 is a 4 yr. old cream &white female Am pit bull mixed with German shep. She was surrendered due to her owner’s uncontrollable allergies toward her. Cream was given to her family 2 weeks ago by a family friend who moved out of state. Socialization Cream was described as being very shy around strangers for a few minutes and would slowly come around as the time progressed. She lived with children ranging from ages 8-16 and was said to be very tolerant of them. She was said to have enjoyed playing with the children in an exuberant manner. During Creams short time with her family she was not exposed to any other dogs or cats. Behavior Cream was said to enjoy baths but was so excited to play and drink the water it was a bit hard to keep control of her during. She didn’t mind getting her nails trimmed or coat brushed. Cream was very tolerant of people touching her food bowl/rawhide and doesn’t show traits of food guarding. For a New Family to Know Cream is described as being shy but would come around with the help of a few treats and some baby talk. She has a very high activity level and enjoys long runs in the park on leash. She does pull hard on the leash but was said to calm down after a few laps in the grass. Cream is house trained and didn’t have any accidents at home. She would scratch at the door if she needed to relieve herself. Cream ate dry food (gravy train). She understands commands such as sit, come, and stay. During intake Cream was shy with her head held low and tail stiff. She retreated the first time approached with the mc scanner. She did allow scanning (-) with the help of her owner. When approached with the rope lead she retreated again but with a soft spoken voice i was able to get her to approach me and allow me to put on the rope lead. I was able to collar her at the same time i applied the lead. With some treats i was able to have her come onto the backdrop and was able to photograph her. She did pull hard on the lead toward the kennel and when cream first approached the kennel she attempted to flee. She was given a few seconds and was lead right into the kennel.
11/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I am so proud of Cream. She has made a 360 degree turnaround. Shy with strangers, wary of other dogs, refused treats, paced…This is ancient history. Cream is a socialite, a grrrrrreat ball player and such a smart dog demontrating for a group of us, volunteers, how she can learn tricks quickly with the help of dogs biscuits. She is one friendly and happy looking gal who clearly looks forward to be in company. In private, she will sneak onto my lap for kisses and hugs. She now loves caresses and she was so timid, so tentative and aloof when I first met her. She does pull on the leash (I think she was used to run with her former owner) and this is the only complaint I see written on her extensive walking log. Cream was relinquished into our care as her short term owner developed allergies to her dander. She comes with excellent recommendations, though, among them being very good with her human siblings. Cream, a cross between a Shepie and a pittie, is a gorgeous blonde, intelligent, elegant, sociable and active pooch who would love to be matched with an equally active person or family. If this is the kind of forever best friend you have in mind, by all means, come to the Manhattan Care Center and meet our Cream. I bet… you will fall in love.
11/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cream came into our center as an owner surrender citing owner’s allergies. She is described as very shy around strangers at first but would slowly warm up as time progressed with treats offered and soft baby talk. Owner reports she lived with children ages 8-16, was tolerant and sometimes played exuberantly with them. It is reported she has a high activity level and enjoyed long runs in the park on leash. Owner states Cream is housebroken and would scratch at the door if needed to go out. During intake, Cream was shy with head low and tail stiff. She pulled on leash for her relief walk. Cream appeared nervous and distracted upon entering the SAFER assessment room, but warmed up to assessor relatively quickly. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail slightly wagging. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears back, tail neutral, mouth closed. Cream was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, focused on other stimuli. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, slight tail wag. Cream showed no interest in Toy. The Behavior Team feels Cream would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit initially from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can know what to expect and relax. Cream may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners. Daily mental and physical stimulation is recommended in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as Kongs and Nylabones to positively direct her reported high energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail slightly wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game when coaxed. She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, slight tail wag. Toy 1. No interest.
11/22/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE

Cream has gotten more comfortable around other dogs while in the care center but has yet to engage in play.
