A volunteer writes: Cooper is ridiculously cute with her short stubby legs on a chubby little body, she makes me giggle when she walks. Cooper is the shelter’s play group Rock star which means she loves playing with other dogs and even has a boyfriend, his name is Aries. Cooper is a bit timid in her kennel and is leery of new people approaching her so if you come to see her she may bark at you through her kennel… but she’s just afraid, once outside of her kennel she will show you her belly and kiss you all up. Please consider giving Cooper her forever home. Come to SIACC and meet her.
Another volunteer writes: I have nicknamed Cooper “SUPER DUPER COOPER” she is a “super” dog always happy to be out playing with volunteers or in play group. Cooper walks well on leash and takes treats gently, she is a small dog about 40 pounds. Cooper knows how to sit and give paw. She’s really quite adorable!!! Come see for yourself. She is at SIACC and waiting…
A staff member writes: Cooper is a petite rabbit eared girl, weighing in at no more than 40 pounds, with bright eyes and a winning smile. She loves a good time and, from the moment she hops out of her kennel to the moment she hops back in, she’s a wonderful playmate. Cooper is affectionate, frisky though somewhat shy, and even tempered. Her leash manners and ball playing skills need a little work but she is a willing student, happy to follow the lead of her companion and instructor. Cooper had the bad luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when her former owner’s home was visited by a detective and she got caught in the mix. Cooper is a tomboy who thrives on freedom and fresh air. Initially tentative and unsure, this resilient young lady relaxed in no time and has since been that little ray of sunshine that brightens up an otherwise difficult or dreary day. With few demands and a constant grin from ear to ear, Cooper is likely housetrained, good with other dogs, and allows all forms of handling once comfortable. She scored all 1’s and 2’s on her behavioral exam but, due to her unfortunate history with law enforcement, we believe Cooper would do best in an experienced home with or without dog savvy, gentle older kids. If you’re looking for a sweet, manageable girl who has the potential to be a perfectly well-mannered and loyal friend, Cooper is the one for you.

SAFER – EXPERIENCED HOME
Cooper came to our center as an owner surrender. It is reported she lived with 2 adults and is timid at first but then warms up and is affectionate and friendly. Owner reports Cooper is crate trained. Cooper was apprehensive upon intake, trembling, tail down, but allowed handling. She walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, pulling slightly only if interested in something. It is reported Cooper was very nervous in her kennel, whale eye, stiff, retreating to the back, but has warmed up significantly and now comes to the front if you show her the leash. She walked nicely into the SAFER assessment area. Cooper held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, tail wag, body soft. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth closed, ears neutral. Cooper followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Cooper had no interest in Food, Toy, or Rawhide. When off leash with other dogs, Cooper is a polite greeter and will often engage in bouncy play and will offer multiple play bows. Due to the level of initial discomfort with new people and situations, the Behavior Team feels Cooper would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit initially in a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can adjust to her new surroundings and relax.
